Biofuels & You

There are three important facts for you to know about running your car on alternative fuels such as bio diesel and bio ethanol:

• Biofuels are perfectly safe to be used in your car at the levels set by the UK Government

• A mixture that includes up to 5% biofuels with 95% conventional fossil fuels in no way affects the manufacturer’s warranty on your car

• Made properly, biofuels are better for the environment than fossil fuels

The UK government is committed to reducing global warning and our greenhouse gas emissions. In the UK road transport fuels are responsible for around a quarter of these emissions. Using a percentage of biofuels is part of the solution to this problem. Certainly, the use of biofuel in cars would be a positive step in tackling global warming.

Higher blends of biofuels such as E85, a petrol/bioethanol blend that includes 85% bioethanol, and B30, a diesel/biodiesel blend with 30% biodiesel are also available. However, these should only be used by motorists who have compatible cars.
